Dr. Mehvesh Afrina is a Board Certified Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist practicing psychiatry since 2008. She completed her residency training in Psychiatry at John Peter Smith (JPS) hospital in Fort Worth, TX and her fellowship in Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX.
Dr. Afrina has extensive experience in both Inpatient and Outpatient clinical settings. She is committed to improving the wellness of her patients through a flexible and responsive approach. She specializes in diagnosing depression, mood disorder, anxiety, behavioral issues associated with cognitive and developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, ADD/ADHD and bipolar disorder. She is well versed in cognitive behavioral therapy, Interpersonal therapy, family therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy and insight oriented therapy.
She offers holistic approach with well-coordinated care involving different modalities. When evaluating a patient she looks at the body as a whole and often recommends blood work to ensure there aren’t any underlying thyroid disorders and vitamin deficiencies. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family.
